I know what you mean. There's just so much to say about this movie on so many different levels - the story, the acting, the camerawork, the editing...'nuff said!
I find it especially interesting to watch this movie along with The Gangs of New York. One can't help but feel that the latter movie obviously deals with a mean, shanty-town scenario that can't have been much different in feel from the City of God, but it's just so glamorised in the Hollywood flick.
City of God is a movie about violence. It's not a violent movie.
I agree with all of that.
Except, I haven't watched The Gangs of New York, so I'l just agree mindlessly, there.
